Laurie Lopez, general manager of Winter, Wyman’s New England IT Contracting division, provides helpful job interview tips for candidates. Her advice could help you gain a necessary advantage in a competitive job market! Transcript: Number one tip: Be prepared. I think it’s very important that people are prepared when they come in for an interview. Whether they have, hopefully, done their research on the company, they need to understand and bring a notebook, take notes, and ask good questions that are well thought out and smart. Looking at your phone: Don’t look at your hand-held for emails. Make sure your ringer is off. Not having good eye contact and being disengaged. I think it depends on the client. I mean you have some financial services clients that are very much that way. You need to go in with your suit, prepared with your folio and your extra copies of your resumes. Then you have software companies, where you might interview with them and it’s a little more relaxed. People are wearing, maybe, jeans. You don’t need to wear a suit to those interviews. Depending on the environment and culture of the company that you’re interviewing with, again, part of your research and planning, then you go in and try to match and mirror them. In my opinion, you can never be too overdressed or prepared. It’s better to present yourself in the best way when you’re trying to win a job. Planning, talking to people, and recognizing what the environment is, is going to be a helpful way to
